The thinking, so I’ve been told, is that if you are a black artist – especially a black comic or cartoon artist – that your characters have to be black.

I’m black. Bella is not. Neither is Jesus. For that matter, neither is Whitney Houston (the ‘co-star’ of Heaven Sent). And Peter of the Pearly Gates isn’t white. There are no black characters or white characters in the entire comic strip.

There is no color in Heaven. That’s why it’s Heaven.
