Bella does Cosplay #5: THE WASP

Wasp

I remember when The Wasp would change her costume every 3-4 issues or so in the 70s-80s (sometimes every 3-4 PANELS). This was especially true George Perez manned the pens of the Avengers. He’s easily my favorite comic book artist ever and some of his ensembles…ooh momma!

Bella does Comics#1- Netflix’s DAREDEVIL

Bella meets Daredevil

I’m sure there are plenty of people who have watched Netflix’s Daredevil and found it bleak, dour and a poor representation of a comic book superhero. But I haven’t met or heard from any of them.

Daredevil is one of the most faithful adaptations of a comic book series from print to film, note for note. The mood is pure noir, the script tight with an ear for sharp acerbic dialogue (for the most part), the characters – Matt aka DD, Foggy, Ben Urich and a phenomenal Kingpin – could literally be drawn by John Romita Jr or Frank Miller with Klaus Janson on inks. Karen Page is changed a bit in an attempt to add more positive substance to her story; it works for the most part. I eagerly await the second season.

The costume, though…ugh! For most of the season, DD wore all black with some light padding as he was going DIY in his war on crime. And his clothes and body wore the scars of that decision. Yet, the look worked very well. I loved it.

When he makes the expected upgrade to the traditional red tights, I expected more of a red version of what came before with improved protection. And that is exactly what we got…except the mask is not doing my man justice.

Word is it will be back next season. After debuting in the final episode of the season one, maybe a full 13 episodes will allow the new gear grow on me. We’ll see.
